Dodgers Video: Cody Bellinger Hits First Home Run Of 2017 Season With Oklahoma City

0 Min Read

Cody Bellinger is the next Los Angeles Dodgers prospect expected to make waves in the Majors. Like with Joc Pederson, Corey Seager and Julio Urias, Bellinger should gain some experience as a call-up prior to assuming a larger role with the Dodgers.

He joined the club this year for a second go-around in big league camp as a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. Bellinger struggled some at the plate, but was often praised by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts for his work ethic and demeanor.

The 21-year-old was eventually optioned to Minor League camp, and began the 2017 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City. After batting .263/.359/.484 with 17 doubles, 23 home runs and 65 RBI in 114 games for Double-A Tulsa last season, Bellinger was promoted to OKC.

He joined the Dodgers’ top Minor League affiliate for the final three regular-season games and their playoff run, which ended in defeat in the Pacific Coast League championship.

Oklahoma City is off to a rough start this season, having dropped the first three of a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs. Bellinger has been in the lineup for each contest, and on Saturday hit the front end of back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning. The homer was Bellinger’s first of the season.
