Dodgers Updates: Brock Stewart, Hyeseong Kim, Michael Kopech & Kirby Yates

4 Min Read

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back Tanner Scott on Friday and are set to see the likes of Kirby Yates, Kiké Hernández, Hyeseong Kim and Tommy Edman return in the coming weeks as well.

Although Max Muncy was recently put on the 10-day injured list because of a Grade 1 right oblique strain and Brock Stewart because of shoulder inflammation, the Dodgers have generally been on the upswing in terms of health since Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell returned to the rotation.

Players returning is coming at an opportune time as the Dodgers find themselves in the thick of a division race with the San Diego Padres.

Dodgers updates

Michael Kopech

Kopech underwent surgery in July to repair the meniscus in his right knee and quickly began to feel well in his recovery process.

Kopech joined Triple-A Oklahoma City to start his rehab assignment on Aug. 14, and has made four appearances for the affiliate thus far.

The right-hander is not eligible to come off the 60-day injured list until Wednesday, Aug. 27.

“We don’t have an exact date,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of when Kopech will be activated.

Brock Stewart

Furthest away of the Dodgers’ high-leverage relief pitchers, Stewart is “getting better” but only playing “light catch” at this time, according to Roberts.

“I think he’s going to be the last guy as far as our group of pitchers coming back. So you’re probably talking second week of September, middle of September, something like that,” Roberts added.

Stewart received a cortisone shot and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to treat his right shoulder inflammation.

“I’ve had these shots in the past, and normally they’ve made me very tender. But I was maybe tender for 12 hours or so, and already it’s calmed down and the motion is good,” he said last week. “So yeah, I’m optimistic. Like I said, just one day at a time.”

Hyeseong Kim

Kim has been playing alongside Hernández while on a rehab assignment with the Comets, and it’s included making a start in left field. As for a return to the Dodgers, that doesn’t figure to come for roughly another week.

“I would say he’ll probably play in a handful of games, so he’s not going to be next week for that Cincinnati series. So it’ll be shortly after that, but I’m not sure exactly when,” Roberts said.

Kirby Yates

Like Scott, Yates pitched in one game while on a rehab assignment with Oklahoma City. He’s expected to be activated before Saturday’s game against the Padres.
