UPDATE (July 29, 11:10 a.m. PT): Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly acquired Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech, and traded Miguel Vargas along with prospects Jeral Perez and Alexander Albertus to the Chicago White Sox.
The St. Louis Cardinals received Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham as part of the three-team trade.
The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the final full day before the MLB trade deadline still needing to address multiple areas of their roster but with a wide scope of possibilities.
Reported Dodgers trade targets over the past few days included Chicago White Sox teammates Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert Jr., Detroit Tigers starter Jack Flaherty, Chicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner, Los Angeles Angels’ Luis Rengifo and Tommy Edman of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Hoerner, Edman and Rengifo figured to be particularly attractive to the Dodgers because of their positional flexibility.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Dodgers traded for Edman as part of a three-team deal with the Cardinals and White Sox:
The St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a three-way deal that will RHP Erick Fedde to St. Louis and IF Tommy Edman to Los Angeles, sources tell ESPN. White Sox will be getting a haul of prospects in return. @Ken_Rosenthal on it.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers traded Miguel Vargas to the White Sox as part of the three-team deal:

The 29-year-old has yet to play this season is currently on the 60-day injured list due to offseason arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist. Edman missed three weeks last July due to right wrist inflammation, and he played through the injury to finish out the season.
The Cardinals were hopeful Edman would make a full recovery in time for Spring Training as he was their projected Opening Day starter in center fielder. Not only did that fail to come to pass, but Edman’s rehab process recently was delayed by a sprained right ankle that was treated with an anti-inflammatory shot.
It still forced Edman to be temporarily shut down because of pain and swelling.
What Tommy Edman trade means for Dodgers
The switch-hitter not only helps possibly shore up shortstop for the Dodgers, but Edman also has experience playing second base, third base and all three outfield positions. It’s likely Edman’s primary role with the Dodgers will be in center field and he also represents an improvement for the bench.
Edman is under team control through the 2025 season by way of a two-year, $16.5 million contract he signed this past January to avoid arbitration.
