Dodgers Rumors: L.A. Expected To Inquire On Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez

With the non-waiver trade deadline less than two weeks away, the level of trade activity and rumors are expected to ramp up. To this point the Los Angeles Dodgers have most often been tied to starting pitchers.

That hardly comes as a surprise given the depleted state of their rotation. Clayton Kershaw’s recovery has been shut down after he experienced back pain coming out of a simulated game, Hyun-Jin Ryu is on the disabled list due to tendinitis in his left elbow, and Alex Wood will miss an estimated eight weeks after undergoing an arthroscopic debridement of his left elbow.

However, the Dodgers are also said to be in the market for an outfielder. They reportedly were considering a trade for Cincinnati’s Jay Bruce last month and it’s believed they have continued interest.

Another option the Dodgers will consider is Colorado Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez, according to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball:

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking hard for a bat as well as an arm, and seem to be in win-now mode. While they are expected to at least talk about Carlos Gonzalez, they are expecting the price to be quite high. Jay Bruce remains a possibility, as well, and probably a much more likely one.

Gonzalez is one of multiple players the Rockies are expected to place on the trading block. He’s batting .317/.366/.545 with 20 doubles, 19 home runs and 56 RBIs this season. The three-time All-Star has enjoyed some success away from Coors Field, hitting .277/.335/.402 in 47 games.

While Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman opted against a significant midseason trade in 2015, the club reportedly is looking to swing a marquee deal this season.
