The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Hunter Feduccia and Jacob Kmatz from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Jack Suwinski and international bonus pool money.
It was their second deal of the trade deadline where they acquired a catcher after adding Ben Rortvedt earlier in the day. Dalton Rushing is set to land on the injured list, which made catching depth a priority for the team.
Suwinski played 93 games for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets this year, hitting .291 with 21 homers and 72 RBI. The 28-year-old has been in the Major Leagues for four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-25), slugging 57 homers with 148 RBI and a .694 OPS.
He was acquired by the Dodgers off waivers on Feb. 21 after being designated for assignment by the Pirates five days earlier.
The move opens up space on the Triple-A roster for the promotion of one of their top outfield prospects currently stuck in Double-A. The Dodgers were looking to clear up some of their outfield logjam in the Minor Leagues.
It’s unclear how much international bonus pool money was sent to Tampa Bay, but it needs to be traded in increments of $250,000.
Dodgers add Hunter Feduccia and Jacob Kmatz
Feduccia rejoins the Dodgers after being traded last summer to the Rays in a trade for Paul Gervase and Ben Rortvedt. The 29-year-old appeared in 60 games for the Rays this year, batting .234 with two homers and 12 RBI.
He has been in the Major Leagues parts of three seasons with the Dodgers (2024-25) and Rays (2025-26), batting .207 with two homers and 21 RBI.
In seven Minor League seasons, Feduccia is a .271 hitter with 55 homers and 308 RBI. Feduccia was drafted by the Dodgers in the 12th round out of Louisiana State University in 2018.
Kmatz was 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA between High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery this season. The 23-year-old was currently with Montgomery, and he was 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.
He features a plus-fastball and slider and an excellent curveball.
The right-hander has pitched in 56 Minor League games (19 starts), going 9-11 with a 4.69 ERA and 154 strikeouts in 163 innings.
He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Oregon State University. The Dodgers will need to add him to their 40-man roster in the offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft.
