The Los Angeles Dodgers faced multiple needs leading up to the MLB trade deadline on Tuesday and got somewhat of a jumpstart on addressing those by acquiring Tommy Edman, Michael Kopech and Amed Rosario.

Edman and Kopech were part of a three-team trade with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox, and Rosario returned via a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.

While that helped shore up the Dodgers’ position-player group and added an upside reliever to the roster, starting pitching remained an area to be addressed. That domino fell with the Dodgers trading for Jack Flaherty minutes before the MLB trade deadline on Tuesday.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers also traded Ryan Yarbrough to the Toronto Blue Jays for Kevin Kiermaier:

Yarbrough was designated for assignment on Monday in order to make room for Rosario on the 40-man roster. The left-hander was acquired at the trade deadline last year and fared well in a swingman role.

However, Yarbrough struggled throughout most of this season and seemingly was squeezed out of a Dodgers bullpen that is expecting to welcome back Brusdar Graterol, Michael Grove and Ryan Brasier in the coming weeks.

Kevin Kiermaier’s role with Dodgers

Kiermaier gives the Dodgers a defensive-minded center fielder and he’s someone they had interest in before he signed with the Blue Jays. Kiermaier announced he plans to retire after the 2024 season.

He’s reuniting with Andrew Friedman after the two spent several years together in the Rays organization.
