Dodgers Spring Training Highlights: DJ Peters Hits Game-Winning Home Run

2 Min Read

While the Los Angeles Dodgers have graduated multiple prospects over recent seasons, this spring presented an opportunity for the organization to get a look at the next wave of young talent rising through the farm system.

Within that is outfield prospect DJ Peters, who is in his first career big league camp. Having already impressed with his work ethic behind the scenes, Peters was in the spotlight late in Friday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

After the Dodgers bullpen blew a lead in a second consecutive game, Peters crushed a go-ahead two-run home run to center field in the eighth inning. Andrew Istler surrendered a solo home run in the ninth before earning a save in the 7-6 win.

Peters’ blast was one of three the Dodgers hit in the game, as Jake Peter and Alex Verdugo also went deep. For Peter, his three-run homer was a second in as many games.

As for Peters, the home run was his first in six games this spring. Overall, he’s 5-for-11 with the one home run, three RBI and three strikeouts. Peters has tallied one hit in four of his six games.

The 22-year-old was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 Draft. He last season with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, batting .276/.372/.514 with 29 doubles, 27 home runs and 82 RBI in 132 games.

Peters gained national notoriety by hitting two home runs off Madison Bumgarner in the same inning of a rehab start for the left-handed ace.
