The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Ryder Ryan, the brother of River Ryan, to a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training.
Ryan last pitched at the MLB level for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024 while throwing in 15 games, and before that he spent a year with the Seattle Mariners in 2023, but appeared in just one game.
Ryder now reunites with his brother River in the Dodgers’ organization. “I’m excited to get out to big league camp and be on the same team again,” River Ryan said.
“The last time we were on the same team was in high school, so it’s been a long time. But it’s really cool to be on a team like the Dodgers with your brother.”
Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported Ryan will make $800,000 if he makes the Major League Roster:

Ryder Ryan is a right-handed pitcher, like his brother, but has been a reliever throughout his career. River Ryan said he thinks the Dodgers plan to use Ryder as a starter and will build him up in Spring Training.
River also shared a scouting report: “He’s got a sinker, has a good cutter, working on a changeup right now which I think is going to be one of his better pitches, has a good slider.
“I think the Dodgers are going to really like what they see in him… I’m just curious to see how it’s all going to unfold; I’m really excited for him.”
Ryder owns a 5.40 career ERA at the MLB level while pitching 21.2 innings with 19 strikeouts to 10 walks. He threw 72.1 innings with a 4.73 ERA with 61 strikeouts during the 2025 season in Triple-A.
River Ryan had no influence on Ryder Ryan signing
Although Ryder was a free agent, River did not try to sway him into signing with the Dodgers and said his brother earned the chance on his own merit after pitching well during a free agent showcase.
“I wouldn’t say I really had much to do with it,” River Ryan said. “I know he had a pro day not that long ago down at Tread Athletics. He did really well, and it sparked some interest from the Dodgers.”
