Plenty of attention is on the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason as the back-to-back World Series champions figure to fortify their roster despite coming off another championship run.
Although the Dodgers have needs to address on their Major League roster, the front office additionally looks to maintain organizational depth. That’s particularly needed with a significant number of Minor League free agents this winter, which includes the likes of Michael Grove and Kody Hoese, among others.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Dodgers’ first addition of the offseason is signing Eliezer Alfonzo to a Minor League contract:

Alfonzo spent the entire 2025 season playing in the Detroit Tigers farm system. He began the year with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens but was sent down to Double-A Erie in the middle of April and remained with that affiliate for the rest of the season.
In 57 games at the Double-A level this year, Alfonzo batted .251/.308/.333 with 13 doubles, one home run and 31 RBI.
The 26-year-old is currently playing for Navegantes del Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League. Alfonzo signed with the Tigers in July 2016 as an international free agent out of Venezuela.
Alfonzo has yet to make his MLB debut and this season was his first time reaching the Triple-A level.
How Eliezer Alfonzo fits within Dodgers
Alfonzo figures to report to Double-A Tulsa or perhaps Triple-A Oklahoma City at the start of the 2026 Minor League season.
The Dodgers lost some of their catching depth at the trade deadline this year when Hunter Feduccia was sent to the Tampa Bay Rays as part of a three-team trade that included the Cincinnati Reds. Though, the Dodgers did receive Ben Rortvedt in the trade, and he proved to be a key contributor as Will Smith and Dalton Rushing both went on to deal with injuries.
Frank Rodriguez is currently the only catcher on the Comets’ depth chart, and the Drillers have Yeiner Fernandez, Griffin Lockwood-Powell and Nelson Quiroz.
