Dodgers News: 2016 1st-Round Draft Pick Gavin Lux Signs

2 Min Read

The Los Angeles Dodgers formally announced the signings of eight of their picks in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, but they appear to have made additional headway in recent days that’s not yet official.

Right-hander Dustin May, selected in the third round, was said to have signed over the weekend for a $1 million bonus, which is above the $590,800 slot value assigned to the 101st pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.

That was followed by fourth-round pick D.J. Peters reportedly signing for an undisclosed sum; the 131st overall selection has a $442,400 slot value.

Then more recently, the Dodgers reportedly signed second-round pick Mitchell White and a slew of other draft selections.

Now, according to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, the Dodgers signed first-round pick Gavin Lux:

Lux later shared news of signing on his Twitter account:

Lux’s reported signing bonus is only $700 more than the slot value for the No. 20 overall pick. The high school shortstop was committed to Arizona State University, but openly stated his desire to begin his professional career after being drafted by the Dodgers.

Lux joined Corey Seager (No. 18 overall in 2012) as the two times in the past 14 years the Dodgers used their top pick in the draft to select a shortstop. The 18-year-old Lux hit .531 with 10 doubles, four triples and six home runs during his senior season at Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wisc.
