The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Brusdar Graterol on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain and activated Michael Grove prior to their series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Graterol suffered the severe hamstring injury in his 2024 debut on Tuesday. He entered in the sixth inning and threw just five pitches before being removed from the game.
Graterol immediately grabbed at his right hamstring after throwing just his eighth pitch of the appearance, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert made their way to the mound.
The right-hander was visibly upset as he spoke with Roberts and Albert before being assisted off the field and down the dugout steps. Graterol continued to rely on support from Dodgers trainers in order to get into the clubhouse for testing.
It was a disappointing turn of events for Graterol, who had yet to pitch this season because of right shoulder inflammation that surfaced during Spring Training. The Dodgers initially believed he would recover in time for the Dodger Stadium opener but that didn’t transpire and Graterol experienced multiple setbacks in the ensuing weeks.
Graterol began a Minor League assignment on July 12 and appeared in eight games before coming off the 60-day injured list this past Monday.
“It’s heartbreaking. Brusdar has been so good for us. He’s done a lot of good things. He’s pitched in a lot of big ball games for us, postseason games, and he had a tough road back,” Roberts said.
“He spent a lot of time in Arizona and being on rehab, and then to come back, the third hitter he faced, to blow out, and it was a pretty good blowout. From what I understand, it was Grade 3 hamstring, and so that’s a long road back. So I feel terrible for him and for his teammates.”

Grove is back with the Dodgers for the first time since mid-June when he was placed on the 15-day injured list due a right intercostal strain.
The 27-year-old made six appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City as part of a rehab assignment and allowed two runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
Before his injury, Grove went 4-3 with a 5.06 ERA, 3.17 FIP and 1.18 WHIP in 37.1 innings pitched across 28 games at the big league level this season.
While Grove is replacing Graterol on the Dodgers roster, he’s expected to fill a multi-innings role that belonged to Ryan Yarbrough before he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for Kevin Kiermaier.
