Dodgers Roster: Max Muncy Placed On Injured List, Esteury Ruiz Recalled

3 Min Read

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list with a left knee bone bruise and recalled Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City before Thursday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

While Ruiz is taking Muncy’s place on the Dodgers roster, Miguel Rojas is starting at third base in the series finale. The Dodgers figure to rely on a rotation of Kiké Hernández and Miguel Rojas at third base while Muncy is out.

He suffered the left knee injury during the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game. Michael A. Taylor attempted to steal third base and momentum from a head-first slide took him into Muncy’s knee, causing it to bend inward.

Muncy immediately went to the ground and grabbed at his knee while writhing in pain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert rushed out of the dugout to check on Muncy before he limped off the field with some assistance.

Roberts said after the game the Dodgers had some optimism based off initial testing, but an MRI on Thursday was going to reveal the full extent of Muncy’s knee injury.

Muncy’s bone bruise in his knee seems to be the best-case scenario even if he is due to miss several weeks. His absence will create a void in the lineup as Muncy led the Dodgers with 24 RBI during the month of June.

Esteury Ruiz replaces Max Muncy

Ruiz is up with the Dodgers for the first time since being acquired in a trade with the Athletics. He was with the team in early June, but only as a member of the taxi squad due to Tommy Edman dealing with right ankle soreness.

However, Edman avoided the injured list in that instance and Ruiz returned to Oklahoma City without getting added onto the active roster.

Ruiz has hit .292/.394/.458 with 16 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI over 66 games with the Comets. Included in that is batting .337/.410/.551 since the start of June, and hitting a home run in each of his last two games.

Ruiz is wearing No. 27 with the Dodgers.
