The Los Angeles Dodgers called up Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Gus Varland prior to Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wrobleski is making his MLB debut in the series finale at Dodger Stadium. The start comes in place of Bobby Miller, who has been pushed back to Tuesday rather than remaining on normal rest for his turn in the rotation.

Miller has yet to record a decision and pitched to a 6.75 ERA while allowing opponents to hit .280/.390/.540 in three starts since coming off the 15-day injured list. Miller missed nearly seven weeks because of right shoulder inflammation.

Meanwhile, Wrobleski has been a fast riser in the Dodgers farm system since getting selected in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

Wrobleski was recovering from Tommy John surgery and did not make his professional debut until the following year. In April 2023, Wrobleski pitched an immaculate inning for High-A Great Lakes.

He began this season with Double-A Tulsa, going 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 67.2 innings pitched across 13 starts before earning a promotion. Since joining the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, Wrobleski is 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA in two starts.

Among other Minor League highlights and accomplishments thus far in his career, Wrobleski represented the Dodgers in the inaugural MLB Spring Breakout game this year.

Wrobleski features a fastball that sits in the upper 90s, and also throws a cutter, curveball and changeup.

Dodgers option Gus Varland

Varland did not make an appearance in his two-day stint with the club after he was recalled to provide an extra arm for an overworked bullpen. He has appeared in seven games for the Dodgers this season with a 3.00 ERA.

He is in his second Major League season and is a combined 1-1 with a 5.81 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 26.1 innings.

In Triple-A Oklahoma City, he has appeared in 27 games, allowing 23 runs in 27.2 innings.
