The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned James Outman to Triple-A Oklahoma City in order to activate Miguel Rojas off the 10-day injured list before Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rojas had been out since July 24 because of right forearm tightness. The roster move was retroactive to July 22 as he’d been out of the Dodgers lineup two games in a row.

That came after Rojas was removed early on July 21 because of the forearm injury that he explained stemmed from taking one-handed swings with a heavier bat than normal. The veteran didn’t express much concern over the injury, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts originally pointed to July 24 as the game Rojas would likely be back in the lineup.

Instead he needed two and half weeks to recover and is now back with the Dodgers one day after joining Single-A Rancho Cucamonga for a rehab assignment game. Rojas went 0-for-3 with a walk as the designated hitter in the Quakes’ lineup. He grouned into a double play, flied out and struck out.

Rojas is batting .271/.316/.406 with 17 doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI in 67 games this season. His .722 on-base plus slugging percentage is on track to be Rojas’ highest mark since the 2020 season.

The 35-year-old figures to spend the next few games playing shortstop but will shift to a utility role off the bench once Mookie Betts returns from the injured list during the series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dodgers option James Outman

Outman made an appearance as a defensive replacement Tuesday night, but has seen his role reduced amid offensive struggles and the addition of Kevin Kiermaier.

Overall this year, Outman is batting .148 with four homers and 11 RBI in 52 games. He has played in 40 games with Oklahoma City, hitting .281/.407/.523 with nine homers and 21 RBI.

Last season, Outman finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting after clubbing 23 homers and driving in 70 as the primary centerfielder. He is in his third season with the Dodgers and has hit a combined .231 with 28 homers and 84 RBI in 207 games.
