The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Gavin Stone to the 60-day injured list as one of the corresponding moves to selecting the contract of Edgardo Henriquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Stone had been on the 15-day injured list since Sept. 6 because of right shoulder inflammation.

Transferring Stone created room for Henriquez on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. Ben Casparius was optioned to Oklahoma City in order to add Henriquez to the active roster.

The hard-throwing prospect seemingly has an opportunity to make an immediate impact for the Dodgers as they look to clinch the National League West, and also potentially pitch his way onto their postseason roster as well.

Henriquez began the 2024 season with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga before spending time with High-A Great Lakes, Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City Baseball Club prior to joining the Dodgers.

Gavin Stone’s 2024 season ends

At the time of Stone going on the injured list earlier this month, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman cast doubt on the likelihood of a return in 2024.

The first step for Stone was to refrain from throwing for 10 days. He was scheduled to start playing catch during the Dodgers’ road trip but couldn’t begin a throwing program because of lingering discomfort in his shoulder.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reiterated at that point Stone wasn’t viewed as likely to return this season or during the playoffs. Stone expressed hope, if not optimism, he would quickly bounce back from the delay and pitch again this year.

But with being put on the 60-day injured list, Stone’s 2024 season has officially come to a close. He went 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 25 starts.

Stone had been the only member of the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation to make every scheduled start this year before his stint on the injured list began.
