The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Emmet Sheehan and Kyle Hurt, optioned Seth Halvorsen and placed Tarik Skubal on the bereavement list ahead of their series finale against the San Francisco Giants.
Skubal and Halvorsen both pitched on Saturday in the victory.
Skubal allowed four runs in five innings, showing a lot of frustration with his outing. He gave up eight hits and walked two while only striking out three.
He has made nine starts for the Dodgers since being acquired from the Detroit Tigers and he is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 55 innings. On the season, he is 11-7 with a 2.85 ERA in 25 starts.
The two-time Cy Young award winner has been in the Major Leagues seven seasons, posting a 65-44 record with a 3.04 ERA in 162 games (159 starts). He has 1,065 strikeouts in 918.1 innings while owning a 1.02 WHIP.
Skubal must be on the bereavement list for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days. It’s unclear why he was placed on bereavement leave, but the list is used if the player has a death or serious illness in their family.
Halvorsen tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to close out Saturday’s game.
He made 11 appearances with the Dodgers, going 1-1 with an 8.10 ERA. Before joining the Dodgers, he appeared in 21 games for the Colorado Rockies this year, posting an 0-1 record with a 4.74 ERA.
He has made 86 Major League appearances for the Rockies (2024-26) and Dodgers (2026), and he is 4-5 with a 4.78 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 81 innings.
Dodgers add reinforcements for bullpen game
Sheehan returns after pitching six scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins last Sunday. He has gone 5-8 with the Dodgers in 2026, posting a career-high 22 starts, racking up 123 strikeouts in 107 innings and a 1.21 WHIP.
He is in his third season with the Dodgers, recording a 4.23 ERA with a 15-12 record in 50 games (45 starts).
The Dodgers needed a pitcher who could throw the bulk of the game on Sunday, and Sheehan is likely to fulfill that role.
Hurt returns for his fifth stint with the team and provides them with another fresh arm before the bullpen game. He has gone 4-1 with a 4.33 ERA this season and 56 strikeouts in 43.2 innings.
He has been with the Dodgers three seasons, compiling a 3.78 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 52.1 innings and a 4-2 mark.
