The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Tyler White to the 60-day injured list as a corresponding move to creating room for Gavin Lux on their 40-man roster. The Dodgers selected Lux’s contract Monday and the 21-year-old will make his MLB debut at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers acquired White from the Houston Astros in exchange for Andre Scrubb. The Astros designated White for assignment days before the July 25 trade with the Dodgers.
White hit .225/.320/.330 with three home runs and 21 RBI through 71 games with Houston this season. He had a bit of a breakout performance in 2018, batting .276/.354/.533 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 66 games.
The 28-year-old is out of Minor League options, which coupled with David Freese and Kiké Hernandez both dealing with injury at the time of the trade, figured to lend to semi-regular opportunities with the Dodgers.
Particularly since White had a career .780 on-base plus slugging percentage against left-handed pitching. However, he continued to scuttle at the plate and appeared in just 12 games (five starts) for L.A.
White was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 13 due to a right lat strain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed Sunday that White, along with Scott Alexander, would not return this season.
In parts of four Major League seasons, White has hit .236/.315/.409 with 48 doubles, 26 home runs and 103 RBI. He remains under team control for the 2020 season and is eligible for salary arbitration the year after that.
