It wasn’t under the circumstances Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers hoped for, but he was on hand at Minute Maid Park to take part in the Cactus Jack Foundation Fall Classic softball game hosted by Travis Scott.

In addition to Betts, Byron Buxton, Gary Sheffield Kendall Jenner, Lance McCullers Jr., Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher were among those also on hand. Betts joined Astros manager Dusty Baker, Bun B, Cavan Biggio, Paul Wall, Reggie Jackson, Scarface and Shane Baz as coaches for the two teams.

Scott launched the Cactus Jack Foundation last November with a mission to “empower and enrich the lives of youth by providing access to education and creative resources to ensure long term success.

“The foundation believes the youth should not be prevented from attaining their lifetime goal and is committed to extending educational opportunities to all, regardless of their circumstances to achieve their dreams.”

Betts and Scott have loose ties through respective sponsorship deals with Nike. Though, Betts is among a select group of MLB players who are Jordan Brand athletes.

Betts and Scott previously were together when they appeared alongside Aleali May, Zion Williamson and others for a Jordan Brand “Here For A Reason” advertisement.

Betts not disappointed in season

Although the Dodgers fell short of repeating as World Series champions, Betts found positives in what the team did accomplish this year — including tying a franchise record with 106 wins.

“I am not disappointed at all. It is what it is,” Betts said after the Dodgers were eliminated in the National League Championship Series. “You win some, you lose some. We didn’t score more runs than they did and they played well. … We know what it takes to get to this point.

“The injuries, being on the road so much, people don’t think about you dedicate your life to this. So I’m not going to hang my head. I’m going to be excited and be happy about what we did, what we accomplished and tip my cap to the Braves.”
