The Los Angeles Dodgers made a second wave of Spring Training roster cuts on Sunday, reassigning outfielder Stetson Allie, right-handed reliever Fabio Castillo, and catchers Jack Murphy and Wynston Sawyer to Minor League camp. Kyle Farmer and Henry Ramos were among five players either optioned or reassigned on March 13.
The Dodgers now have 53 players in big league camp, excluding Yimi Garica who is on the 60-day disabled list after undergoing Tommy John surgery last December. Including Sunday’s exhibition matchup against Team Japan, the Dodgers have 13 Spring Training games remaining, and just one split-squad date.
Allie had four hits in 19 at-bats over 18 games with the Dodgers. He went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI single against the Colorado Rockies on March 6, and slugged a three-run homer in a win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on March 11.
The Dodgers signed Allie to a Minor League contract last November. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a pitching prospect in the second round of the 2011 Draft.
Castillo pitched to a 4.50 ERA in five Cactus League games. His last appearance came Friday, when Castillo allowed an unearned run in 1.1 innings of work against the San Diego Padres. The 28-year-old reliever has thrown eight innings thus far, and not allowed an earned run in three of five appearances.
Castillo signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers in January. He spent the 2016 season pitching in the Padres organization.
Murphy is in his second spring with the Dodgers. The switch-hitting catcher had one hit, two walks and five strikeouts in 10 at-bats across 13 games this year.
Sawyer had two hits, including an RBI single, in seven at-bats over eight games. He entered as a pinch-hitter on Saturday and drew a walk in his lone plate appearance.
Allie, Castillo, Murphy and Sawyer remain eligible to join the Dodgers in Cactus League games as call-ups from Minor League camp.
