Coinciding with the formal announcement of their 25-man active roster for Opening Day of the 2016 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers placed Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 15-day disabled list.

In total, the Dodgers began this season with 10 players on the disabled; eight joined Brandon McCarthy and Frankie Montas on the DL, with the pair of right-handers previously added to the 60-day DL.

Ryu recovered well from last May’s surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, reporting to Camelback Ranch earlier than pitchers and catchers were expected. However, the southpaw hit a minor bump in the road during camp when soreness temporarily shut him down.

Ryu was among the players who remained in Arizona for extended Spring Training when the Dodgers returned to California for the Freeway Series. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Ryu is scheduled to throw live batting practice this week.

Roberts previously indicated Ryu’s goals of returning in May and making 20 starts this season were unrealistic. Ryu was a combined 28-15 with a 3.17 ERA, 2.97 FIP and 1.19 WHIP in 56 starts over his first two seasons with the Dodgers.

Assuming Ryu doesn’t suffer any setbacks in the coming weeks, he’s on schedule to make his regular-season debut at some point in June.
