Freddie Freeman was named National League Player of the Week for July 11-17, marking the second time in the last month he has earned the honor (June 20-26). Cody Bellinger is the only other Los Angeles Dodgers player to receive the recognition this season (April 18-24).
It’s the seventh overall time Freeman has earned NL Player of the Week. He twice was named NL Player of the Month (September 2016 and 2020).
Freeman began his big week by helping lead the Dodgers to a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The 32-year-old then carried that momentum into the Freeway Series against the L.A. Angels, where he had an opportunity to play in front of his family.
Freeman hit safely in all five games during the past week, batting .632/.652/1.158 with five runs scored, 12 total hits, four doubles, two home runs, five RBI and two walks. Included in that was a three-game streak that saw Freeman score at least one run and tally an extra-base hit.
Overall, Freeman is on an eight-game hitting streak and he entered the All-Star break batting .321/.397/.530 in 90 games this season. Freeman leads the NL with 114 hits, and is second in batting average and doubles (31).
Freeman added to 2022 MLB All-Star Game
Freeman was added to the NL roster for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, replacing New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte. Freeman gives the Dodgers six All-Stars for the showcase at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night.
The All-Star Game selection is Freeman’s sixth of his career. Included in that was previously starting the Midsummer Classic at first base in 2018, 2019 and 2021. That Freeman was an All-Star Game snub this season came as a surprise.
