The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the the Arizona Diamondbacks, and placed Luis Avilan on the paternity list.
Avilan must miss at least one day and can remain on the paternity list for a maximum of three days. He’s appeared in 47 games this season, going 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA, 2.92 FIP and 1.44 WHIP.
Avilan was placed on the 10-day disabled list in May due to left triceps soreness. He returned 15 days later. Some of Avilan’s ineffectiveness led to the Dodgers searching for a left-handed reliever at the non-waiver trade deadline.
The 28-year-old last pitched Aug. 4 and extended his streak of scoreless appearances to 11 games (9.1 innings).
Stewart returns a mere five days after he was optioned to Oklahoma City in order to activate Tony Cingrani. The roster move came one day after Stewart allowed two runs on three hits in a start against the Atlanta Braves.
Stewart has yet to receive a decision this season, but holds one save and a 0.87 ERA in eight games (two starts) for the Dodgers. Opponents are batting .181 off Stewart, while he’s struck out 13 batters against seven walks in 20.2 innings.
He’s in a third stint with the Dodgers this year. Stewart was scheduled to start Tuesday night for Oklahoma City, which was instead filled by David Hale.
