The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Brock Stewart from Triple-A Oklahoma City and put Alex Wood on the 10-day disabled list with SC joint inflammation. Stewart starts Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates in place of Yu Darvish, who landed on the DL last week with lower back tightness.
This marks a second time this season trouble in the SC joint has forced Wood to the disabled list. He missed just one start and was sidelined 12 days the previous instance. Wood said trouble resurfaced following his Aug. 9 start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
His velocity was down in the series opener against the Pirates, and Wood surrendered three home runs, including back-to-back shots, over six innings. He entered the night having allowed seven homers in 117.1 innings through 20 games (19 starts) this season.
On the year, the 26-year-old is 14-1 with a 2.41 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. Wood has logged enough innings to currently qualify among league leaders, and his ERA is fourth-best in baseball.
Stewart joins the Dodgers for a fourth stint this season. His last came earlier this month when Luis Avilan was put on the paternity list.
Stewart has yet to earn a decision in nine games (two starts) with the Dodgers, but does have one save and a 1.64 ERA. Some of his peripherals aren’t as kind, however, such as a 4.04 FIP and 1.05 WHIP.
With Oklahoma City, Stewart owns a 2.03 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in four starts, with 20 strikeouts in 13.1 innings.
Also on Tuesday, the Dodgers put Cody Bellinger on the disabled list and recalled Josh Ravin from Oklahoma City.
