Although the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided being swept by the Miami Marlins on Thursday night, Mookie Betts left loanDepot Park on crutches after coming out of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.

That was a result of fouling a pitch off his left foot in the first inning. Betts nevertheless managed to play most of the night without any apparent effects.

He went 1-for-2 with one run scored and two walks in the Dodgers’ 10-0 win that was highlighted by Ryan Pepiot flirting with a perfect game.

While Betts was off crutches on Friday and some of the swelling subsided, the Dodgers sent him for a CT scan on his left foot.

According to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:, manager Dave Roberts said the extent of Betts’ injury is a bone bruise:

A day after Mookie Betts left a game early after fouling a ball off his left foot, medical scans confirmed the star slugger suffered only a bone bruise, manager Dave Roberts said, a minor injury that should allow Betts to return to action by Monday.

Prior to the Dodgers receiving the CT scan results, Roberts said during an appearance on MLB Network Radio he anticipated Betts missing the entire weekend series against the Washington Nationals and potentially return Monday.

Should that be the case, the Dodgers would welcome Betts back for the start of a series with the San Diego Padres. In terms of an off day in the schedule for added rest, that’s not arriving until Thursday. The Dodgers then play 10 games in a row before their next off day on Monday, September 25.

Mookie Betts had record-setting August

Betts had a record-setting stretch en route to earning National League Player of the Month honors for August.

Betts became just the third player in MLB history since 1900 to have a minimum of a .450 batting average along with 50 hits and 10 home runs in a calendar month. He joined Babe Ruth (July 1923, 1924) and Lou Gehrig (June 1930).

Betts also set L.A. Dodgers franchise records with 35 runs scored and 51 total hits.
