The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Brusdar Graterol off the 60-day injured list on Monday but the right-hander didn’t make his 2024 debut until the middle game of the series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Graterol entered in the sixth inning with the Dodgers trailing 1-0, and managed to throw just five pitches before being removed due to an apparent right leg injury.

Graterol’s final pitch was a 92 mph two-seamer to J.T. Realmuto. Graterol immediately grabbed at his right hamstring as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert made their way to the mound.

Graterol was visibly upset as he spoke with Roberts and Albert before being assisted off the field and down the dugout steps. He continued to rely on support from Dodgers trainers in order to get into the clubhouse for testing.

Brent Honeywell took over for Graterol and immediately walked Realmuto. He followed that by giving up an RBI single to Nick Castellanos, and the Phillies extended their lead to 4-0 before Honeywell could get through the inning.

Leaving with an injury was a disappointing development for Graterol, who had yet to pitch this season because of right shoulder inflammation that surfaced during Spring Training. The Dodgers initially believed he would recover in time for the Dodger Stadium opener but that didn’t come to be and he encountered multiple setbacks.

He began a Minor League assignment on July 12 and appeared in eight games before coming off the 60-day injured list.

Brusdar Graterol’s injury

The Dodgers announced Graterol’s injury as a right hamstring strain during the game. Following the loss, Roberts said the team believes the injury to be a Grade 3 strain.

Graterol is bound to join Blake Treinen on the 15-day injured list. Treinen was placed on the IL with left hip discomfort as the corresponding move to the Dodgers activating Graterol.

Michael Grove is expected to be reinstated on Thursday. Ryan Brasier remains on the 60-day IL but is continuing to work his way back to the Dodgers bullpen.
