Dodgers Updates: Tony Gonsolin & Evan Phillips Begin Rehab Assignments With Oklahoma City Comets

3 Min Read

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ injured list to begin the 2025 season included nine pitchers, with Tony Gonsolin (back tightness) and Evan Phillips (right rotator cuff strain) among those not available.

It was an expected development with Phillips, who was behind during Spring Training after suffering his right shoulder injury in the playoffs last year.

Gonsolin was competing for the fifth spot in the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation but tweaked his back while lifting weights late in spring and thus needed to be put on the injured list.

Both pitchers continued to make strides in their respective recoveries, which included facing batters at Dodger Stadium this past weekend. That put them on track to join Triple-A Oklahoma City for rehab assignments on Thursday.

The night included Landon Knack pitching for the OKC Comets as well, and James Outman delivering a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Dodgers injured players updates

Tony Gonsolin

Gonsolin allowed one hit and issued two walks while collecting one strikeout over 1.2 innings pitched against Triple-A El Paso (San Diego Padres affiliate).

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the plan was for Gonsolin to go two innings. He threw 35 pitches (17 strikes) and faced eight batters.

The game was only Gonsolin’s third this year, as he made just two appearances (one start) during Spring Training.

Roberts indicated Gonsolin is likely to make multiple rehab starts before potentially joining the Dodgers rotation.

Evan Phillips

Phillips gave up one run in his planned one inning of work. He faced four batters and allowed one hit, issued a walk and collected one strikeout. Phillips threw 24 pitches (14 strikes) in his appearance at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

It marked Phillips’ first time pitching in a game since last year’s National League Championship Series.
