One of the many highlights from the Los Angeles Dodgers Holiday Zoom Party was Clayton Kershaw joining Joe Davis and Alanna Rizzo to discuss his offseason, plans for Christmas and what was on his wish list.

Kershaw and his wife Ellen are parents to three children, and have family in close proximity to their Dallas home. “It’s always great to be home and get to see family,” Kershaw said. “That’s why baseball is so great. We get to be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so that’s special.”

The Kershaws, like all others, are dealing with some change this holiday season due to challenges and limitations brought on by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. With more time spent at home, Kershaw and his wife were striving to avoid a late night of wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve.

Although the left-hander has won three Cy Young Awards, an MVP and now a World Series, Kershaw admittedly does not excel in wrapping. “We are making a concerted effort not to stay up until two in the morning on Christmas Eve,” Kershaw said.

“That is our goal. So that might mean I wrap more than my usual, and they’re not going to look great. They’re not. But the wrapping paper is going to cover the present, and that is the only thing that matters. That they open up something. I can tape some wrapping paper on a box, no doubt.

“I’m so focused. I’m like sweating by the end of it. You’ve got to get in there, then it’s a weird shape. What do you do with a weird shaped box? Way too much wrapping paper, way too much tape. Just the classic mistakes.”

In terms of holiday tradition, Kershaw makes it a point to annually watch “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” which he deemed his favorite Christmas movie.

Bellinger remembers breaking scooter

Cody Bellinger also was a guest on the Dodgers Holiday Zoom Party, and he reflected on receiving an electric scooter for Christmas as a young child. Unfortunately, Bellinger recalled, he broke the back wheel immediately after using it.
