The Los Angeles Dodgers bounced back from a disappointing loss by slugging their way to an 8-4 win over the Miami Marlins. It now has the teams primed to play a series rubber match Thursday afternoon at loanDepot Park.
Will Smith got the Dodgers going early with a solo home run that hit off the foul pole in left field. The homer was Smith’s second in the month of September and 19th this season.
The Dodgers remained ahead 1-0 until putting together a big fourth inning against Ryan Weathers. Tommy Edman added onto what’s been an impressive showing with the team by lining a two-run homer to right field.

The home run was Edman’s sixth in his last eight games. Edman’s somewhat surprising power display has earned him a “Tommy Tanks” nickname from teammates.

After Smith reached on an error and Andy Pages hit a soft single, Kiké Hernández connected for a three-run home run that reached the promenade level in left-center field. Hernández’s blast traveled an estimated 430 feet.
That was more than enough run support for Landon Knack, who got through five scoreless innings. He held the Marlins to just two hits and averaged a season-high 94.7 mph on his fastball. Knack also finished with seven strikeouts, tying for his second-most this year.
Knack’s outing came at an opportune time as the Dodgers evaluate available pitchers for their postseason rotation and roster.
Zach Logue struggled in his Dodgers debut, which led to the Marlins scoring three runs. Chris Taylor helped create more separation with a two-run single in the ninth.

The Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the National League West title is down to seven with 10 games remaining on their schedule. The Dodgers are still 3.5 games ahead of the San Diego Padres in the division.
