Dodgers Highlights: Justin Turner, Will Smith, Max Muncy & Matt Beaty Hit Home Runs Vs. Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers capped off their road trip by slugging five home runs in a 14-4 blowout at Citi Field to complete a series sweep of the New York Mets. L.A. improved to 21-4 in their last 25 games against New York.

Back in the lineup for the first time since being removed on Aug. 8 because of left groin discomfort, Justin Turner opened the scoring for the Dodgers with a two-run home run off Carlos Carrasco in the first inning.

Will Smith added to Carrasco’s troubles two batters later with his third home run in as many games.

Trea Turner’s RBI double extended the Dodgers’ lead to 4-0 in the second inning, and Max Muncy went to left-center field for his first of multiple two-run homers on the night.

The Dodgers largely went quiet after that, until Max Scherzer’s sacrifice fly and Muncy slugging his second home run in the sixth inning. The Dodgers added with three more runs in the eighth inning behind Smith driving in two on a base hit and Chris Taylor collecting his first hit with an RBI double.

The Mets turned to a position player in Brandon Drury for the ninth inning and he surrendered a mammoth two-run home run to Matt Beaty.

Scherzer bails out Dodgers’ defense

Scherzer stranded a pair of runners in the first and second inning, but couldn’t do so again in the third. A leadoff walk and double put two on with nobody out, and a grounder to the right side of the infield got the Mets on the board.

The Mets then loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning — in large part to miscues by the Dodgers — but only managed one run once again. That RBI groundout marked the start of Scherzer retiring eight in a row as he got through six innings on 94 pitches.
