Freddie And Chelsea Freeman Honor Family Members With Name Of Newborn Daughter

4 Min Read

Freddie Freeman and his wife Chelsea announced the birth of their fourth child, London Rosemary Joy, on Tuesday, and the nine-time All-Star returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup for the series opener against the San Francisco Giants.

“It was awesome,” Freeman said on SportsNet LA of the new family addition. “I got to hold her one last time before I got on a plane [Tuesday] afternoon. She’s perfect. Everything we had hoped for. She is everything we could ask for.

“You will not be seeing another baby announcement from the Freemans. This is it. we are happily done with four. She is the perfect addition and end to it.”

The Freemans decided on the name of their daughter by paying homage to family members on both sides.

“My in-laws are from England, born and raised there. [Chelsea] has always loved the name London. Ever since I’ve known Chelsea, it’s always felt like if we were ever going to have a girl, the girl’s name was going to be London,” Freeman explained.

“And she has two middle names, Rosemary and Joy. My mom’s name was Rosemary Joy Freeman, so our daughter’s name is London Rosemary Joy Freeman, after my mom.”

Freeman’s mother was born in Toronto, Canada, and passed away because of melanoma in 2000. Freeman was a teenager at the time and has openly discussed how challenging of a period that was for him. But the passing of Rosemary Joy drew Freeman and his father, Fred, another Canadian native, even closer and led them to the baseball field nearly every day.

One of their long-held traditions remains in place as Freeman hits batting practice off his father every offseason.

Freeman’s parents are what inspires him to play for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, though he skipped the event this year due to the pregnancy. It’s also what made playing against the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series all the more “special” for Freeman.

Freeman family details

Freddie and Chelsea Freeman now share four children, including sons Fredrick Charles II (Charlie), Brandon John and Maximus Turner; and their daughter London Rosemary Joy.

Fertility challenges resulted in the Freemans relying on surrogacy several years ago. Chelsea wound up becoming pregnant nearly simultaneously, which led to Brandon being born in December 2020, and Maximus arriving in February 2021. The Freemans affectionately refer to them as “twins with a twist.”

The couple used the same surrogate for London and are maintaining her privacy by not revealing the identity of the woman.

While Freeman is thrilled to now be a father of four, welcoming a daughter has come with a learning curve for himself and three sons.

“Charlie is super excited. Brandon was excited. Max looked at her and said, ‘She looks like me,’ and then walked off. That was about it,” Freeman said of their initial reactions to having a baby sister.
