Brady Ebel slugged a home run for the Milwaukee Brewers in Spring Training against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but unfortunately, his father, Dino Ebel, wasn’t there to see it.
Dino was with Team USA participating in the World Baseball Classic during the Cactus League matchup between the two teams. After Dino finished coaching practice, he went to check the score of the game and saw it was a blowout with the Dodgers up 7-0.
However, the Dodgers blew the lead quickly as the Brewers scored 10 runs in the fifth inning. Once the backups came in, Brady was among those inserted into the game, and he hit a homer that gave Milwaukee their 19th run of the game.
“The truth was we just finished practice, I went to the hotel and turned on the MLB channel, the Dodgers and Brewers are on,” Dino said on SportsNet LA. “It’s 7-0 Dodgers, and I’m like, ‘This is beautiful. We’re going to beat these guys today, I know my son is there.’
“And then it’s a quick 10-7, they scored 10 in the inning. And this is the honest to God truth, MLB switches to another game in Spring Training, and now I’ve got to listen to it on the Internet. But what a thrill.
“I told Brady, I said, ‘Hey, it’s just a Spring Training game. Don’t mean nothing. It’s a practice home run.’ But I’ll tell you what, I was a happy father. Just all the work the kid has put in, he’s gaining strength, he’s 18 years old, he was just sent out to Low-A where last year he left off in the Carolina League. He had a great Spring Training, so he’s in a good mindset and I’m happy for him.”
The Brewers went on to win 24-9, taking away some bragging rights from Dino. However, he was still proud of the moment for his son.
Brady was selected by the Brewers as a compensation pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft, going 32nd overall. Prior to being drafted, he worked out almost daily at Dodger Stadium before games with Dino.
Brady hit .241/.333/.259 without a homer in his first taste of Minor League Baseball last year, making his Spring Training long ball against the Dodgers the first of his professional career.
Brady opened the 2026 season with the Single-A Wilson Warbirds.
Brady Ebel stats vs. Dodgers
Brady finished that game against the Dodgers going 1-for-2 with one home run, one RBI and three runs scored. He was used as a pinch-runner for Joey Ortiz and scored his first run that way.
He also reached on a walk and came around to score, along with his home run.
