Corey Seager joined a rare group of players in MLB history by leading the Texas Rangers to their first World Series title by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Seager captured his second career World Series MVP Award, putting him in elusive company. In addition to Seager, Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson are the only players in MLB history to win a World Series MVP multiple times.
Seager previously accomplished the feat with the Los Angeles Dodgers when he was named 2020 World Series MVP. That came on the heels of being named MVP of the National League Championship Series.
When factoring in sports history for MLB, NBA, NFL and the NHL, Seager is only the second player to ever win a championship MVP Award for two different teams over a four-year span, with the other being Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.
In five games against the Diamondbacks, the former Dodgers draft pick went 6-for-21 with one double, three home runs, three walks, six RBI and six runs scored. Seager’s leadoff single in seventh inning of the deciding Game 5 broke up Zac Gallen’s no-hitter and he then came around to score the first run of the night.
The Rangers became the first team in MLB history to win a World Series game despite being scoreless and not having a hit through six innings.
The Rangers additionally achieved an MLB first by finishing at least 25 games below .500 the season before winning the World Series.
They also are just the third team in baseball history to win a World Series title within two years of a 100-loss season. The 1914 Boston Braves and 1969 New York Mets accomplished that feat as well.
By finishing 68-94 in 2022, the Rangers had the worst record the year before winning a championship.
Bruce Bochy became the sixth manager with at least four titles, but first to win a World Series against and for the same franchise; the San Francisco Giants defeated the Rangers in 2010 Fall Classic.

Jackson and Seager are the only players to ever be named MVP of the World Series for different teams. But Seager stands alone as the first player in MLB history to win World Series MVP in both leagues.
