The Boston Red Sox claimed Yohan Ramírez off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, adding the right-hander three days after he was designated for assignment.

The Dodgers DFA’d Ramírez in order to make room for Clayton Kershaw’s return from the 60-day injured list. Ramírez became the third Dodgers pitcher designated for assignment last week.

First James Paxton and next was Ricky Vanasco two days later. The Paxton decision was for River Ryan to make his MLB debut, and Vanasco was due to the Dodgers signing Nick Ahmed and needing space on their 40-man roster.

With Ramírez, the DFA came one day after he struggled to the tune of five runs allowed and just two batters retired as the San Francisco Giants pulled away in eighth inning. Three of the runs were charged to Ramírez after he gave way to Joe Kelly.

Ramírez went 0-5 with a 5.98 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 37 appearances for the Dodgers. He joined the team in a trade with the New York Mets after they designated Ramírez for assignment in May.

Ramírez largely struggled throughout his time with the Dodgers but did produce a string of six consecutive appearances at one point.

Yohan Ramírez reunites with James Paxton

In joining the Red Sox, Ramírez is teammates once again with Paxton.

Boston acquired Paxton in a trade that sent prospect Moises Bolivar to the Dodgers. The deal represented a reunion for Paxton as well, as he spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Red Sox.

Meanwhile, Ramírez returns to the American League. The 29-year-old made his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2020 and remained with the team into the 2022 season.

Additional AL teams Ramírez has pitched for in his career include the Cleveland Guardians, Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
