2017 World Series: Astros’ Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Sets Wager With Dodgers’ Rep. Jimmy Gomez

2 Min Read

Congress has gotten involved in the 2017 World Series, specifically House of Representatives members Sheila Jackson Lee (D – Houston) and Jimmy Gomez (D – Los Angeles). Rep. Lee issued a friendly wager to Rep. Gomez on the House floor Monday, which Gomez accepted.

Should the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Houston Astros, Lee will deliver a congratulatory statement on the floor of the House while wearing the victor’s colors. She will also provide Texas BBQ for Gomez.

If the Astros are to win, Gomez will deliver a congratulatory message under the same guidelines, and present Lee with a famous French dip sandwich from Los Angeles staple, Philippe’s.

“Ask any Angeleno, and they will agree that Philippe’s is the obligatory first stop when cheering on the Boys in Blue at Dodger Stadium,” Gomez said in statement.

“Their French Dipped Sandwiches are legendary! Unfortunately for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, she will have to wait for another opportunity to try them because the Dodgers will win the World Series. I look forward to her congratulatory praises on the House floor when we win the championship. Let’s go, Dodgers!”

Heading into the World Series, the Dodgers have a 55 percent probability to win their first title since 1988, per analytical model FiveThirtEight.

“It is common knowledge that everything is bigger in Texas and this includes, of course, our legendary barbecue. The unmistakable aroma and mouth-watering flavors easily make our brand of barbecue the best in the world,” Lee said.

“But if Congressman Gomez is counting on the World Series to earn him a free plate, I am afraid he will be sorely disappointed because my Astros are about to crush his Dodgers. Sorry Congressman. I cannot wait to taste those French Dipped Sandwiches.”
