Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully delivered the unfortunate but expected news last August that the 2016 season would be his final in the broadcast booth. Despite his wishes that he not distract from the games being played, Scully has received multiple honors.

It began with the portion of Elysian Park Avenue that runs between Sunset Boulevard and Dodger Stadium Way being renamed to Vin Scully Avenue during a formal dedication ceremony in April, and has continued with the Dodgers adding Vin Scully Appreciation Night to their promotional calendar.

Other clubs joined in, with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim presenting Scully with multiple mementos during his final visit to Angel Stadium.

Scully has politely turned down other overtures, namely declining to call the All-star game and make a visit to Yankee Stadium later this season.

While Scully has been the focus of well-deserved honors, he provided a different memory for fans during the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals. One of the multiple pitches Jayson Werth fouled off landed in the Time Warner Cable SportsNet LA television booth.

Scully retrieved the ball, while narrating the sequence, and flung it onto the loge level at Dodger Stadium:

Simply catching a foul ball or home run at any game is a challenge in it of itself. Being the recipient of a foul ball via Scully is downright magical.
