For the first time in 50 years, all 30 teams will be in action on Opening Day. To help spread the word, Kingsford Charcoal fielded an amazing collection of baseball greats, including Los Angeles Hall-of-Famer and retired broadcaster Vin Scully, to help launch its official partnership with Major League Baseball.

Kingsford Charcoal recently unveiled their brand new ‘#OpeningDayIsBack’ video, which starred Scully, along with Cincinnati Reds Hall-of-Famer Johnny Bench, Boston Red Sox icon David Ortiz and New York Mets right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard.

Together, the quartet helped encourage fans to take the afternoon off on Thursday, March 29, to enjoy baseball with a side of charcoal-smoked barbecue.

In 2016, Kingsford launched a “Take Back Opening Day” campaign to help recognize the festivities as an official holiday. Their latest efforts will only help the cause.

The Dodgers are set to host the rival San Francisco Giants on March 29 in the first of a four-game series. Clayton Kershaw is expected to make his franchise-record eighth consecutive Opening Day start, with Giants ace Madison Bumgarner scheduled to oppose him.

Scully is entering his second year of retirement after being the voice of the Dodgers for 67 seasons. Scully did return to Dodger Stadium on a couple occasions last season, as he was honored in May, becoming the first non-player or manager to enter the Ring of Honor at Dodger Stadium.

He then was in attendance during the World Series, most notably Game 2 when he was scheduled to throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch, but instead called out Fernando Valenzuela to do it.

Among the Dodgers promotional giveaways for the 2018 season are an “It’s Time For Dodger Baseball” alarm clock, so it is possible that Scully finds his way back to the place he called home for more than 50 years again this season.
