Coming off their first loss of the season, in which they blew a 4-0 lead, the Los Angeles Dodgers handed the ball to rookie Ross Stripling for his first Major League start. Stripling was opposed by San Francisco Giants right-hander, who took the mound for the 31st time in his career against the Dodgers.

Both pitchers retired the side in order in the first inning, with Yasiel Puig collecting the game’s first hit on a one-out single in the second. The base hit was another in what’s been a hot start to the season for Puig.

He later stole second base, but was stranded as Scott Van Syke flied out. Meanwhile, Stripling continued to work his way through the Giants lineup as he retired Brandon Belt, Matt Duffy and Brandon Crawford in order in the bottom of the second.

However, it wasn’t without some help from Puig, who laid out to make a diving catch on a sinking liner to rob Duffy of a hit:

Joc Pederson then made a diving catch in the fourth inning to help preserve Stripling’s no-hitter:

The young righty lost his perfect game with a pair of one-out walks in the fourth, but worked out of the inning by retiring Belt and Duffy. Stripling wound up getting removed with his no-hitter intact after throwing 100 pitches over 7.1 innings. The Giants won in the 10th inning on Brandon Crawford’s walk-off solo home run.
