Dodgers News: Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun And Alex Verdugo Named To Fall Stars Game

UPDATE (Nov. 3, 11:35 a.m. PT): Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Alex Verdugo and Dillon Tate of the New York Yankees will no longer participate in the 2016 Fall Stars Game. They were replaced by Chicago White Sox outfielder Courtney Hawkins and Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Rayan Gonzalez, respectively.


Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun and Alex Verdugo were named to the West roster for the Fall Stars Game. The Arizona Fall League’s 11th annual showcase will take place Saturday, Nov. 5, at Surprise Stadium.

The game will air on MLB Network and be available for online stream at MLB.com. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. PT. Rosters for the Fall Stars Game are set by player development staffs of all 30 Major League teams and the Arizona Fall League staff.

The West roster consists of players from Glendale Desert Dogs, Peoria Javelinas and Surprise Saguaros. The East roster is comprised of prospects from the Mesa Solar Sox, Salt River Rafters and Scottsdale Scorpions.

Bellinger, Calhoun and Verdugo were teammates this season with Double-A Tulsa, and they each joined Triple-A Oklahoma City during their run in the Pacific Coast League playoffs.

Bellinger is batting .311/.404/.489 with five doubles, one home run and nine RBI through 13 AFL games. Calhoun is hitting .286/.310/.429 with one home run and four RBI over nine games. Verdugo has struggled the most among the trio, batting aw lowly .140/.213/.233 with two doubles, one triple and two RBI in 13 games.

Verdugo recently admitted to feeling fatigued after playing 126 regular-season games, then an additional four contests in the playoffs. The 20-year-old nonetheless said he’s enjoying participating in the Arizona Fall League.
