Los Angeles Dodgers radio broadcasters Rick Monday and Charley Steiner signed multiyear contracts, the organization announced on Thursday. Monday and Steiner have worked together for the past 12 seasons to call games on AM 570 LA Sports and across the Dodgers Radio Network.

“I have been privileged over the years to call the Dodgers family and Dodger Stadium home and my broadcast partner my friend,” Monday said. “I’m really looking forward to continuing this great experience with all of our wonderful fans.”

Monday was honored prior to the series opener against the Miami Marlins as it marked the 40-year anniversary of his saving an American flag from being burned by two protestors in the outfield at Dodger Stadium.

Monday is in his 24th season as a Dodger broadcaster and his 32nd season with the organization, eight of which were as a player. He was part of three National League pennants (1977, ’78 and ’81) and won the World Series with the Dodgers in ’81.

Prior to joining the Dodgers’ broadcast booth in 1993, Monday worked as a sports anchor for KTTV. Steiner is into his 12th season doing play-by-play for the Dodgers. He’s a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame and last year was honored by Bradley University, his alma mater, when they formally dedicated the Charley Steiner School of Sports Communication.

“From the time I was seven years of age, back when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn, all I ever wanted to be was an announcer for the Dodgers,” Steiner said. “And to continue on in a place that I love, with a partner who is a good friend, and spending the last dozen years with Vin, there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t pinch myself.”

Steiner was the emcee for the dedication ceremony of Vin Scully Avenue on April 11. He spoke fondly of Vin Scully and credited him for sparking an interest in a career as a broadcaster.

“Rick and Charley have been a great team in the broadcast booth,” Dodgers executive vice president and chief marketing officer Lon Rosen said. “The combination of the two talents over the past 12 years has provided Dodger fans a thoroughly enjoyable journey through each and every game. We look forward to them continuing for many years to come.”
